Live grows where water flows
Water and soils are our most precious elements, which are under increasing pressure from climate change. 4 Elements Investment (4EI) is connecting climate change mitigation measures with inclusive new business models.
We bring together technical, financial and implementation partners to redefine the way how business is done jointly with the local communities that are affected by deteriorating landscapes. Our aim is to create long term value beyond shareholder value.
Our goals
Our mission is to create value together with the local people so that they can have an economic outlook and an incentive to maintain and preserve the ecology. We do this in a way that dovetails with local skills and traditions.
We aim to be a catalyser with an initial investment in setting up new business models that are driving social, environmental and economic improvement. In the long term, we strive for local ownership of the business and improved land that is suitable for people, wildlife and economic activities.
- Employment local community, in particular women
- New economic opportunities with a sound financial model
- Starting small, but with an accelerated scale-up
- Remediation of eroded and agricultural land

Our approach
4EI is the business-driven successor of Westerveld Conservation Trust, a foundation dedicated to hydrological restauration through contour trenching. With help of this technique, running off water is brought subsurface , creating a year-round water supply for people, agriculture and wildlife. From a dry, deserted landscape a lush and green environment is created in a couple of years.
- We combine 20+ years project management and corporate finance experience
- We work in a network model: we work with outstanding local and international content and knowledge partners
- We favour women at the core: they are highly motivated to create sustainable business
- We have multi-year relationships with local communities
